It is pleasanter still to have a liberal creditor, like the public, who will be satisfied with instalments, and even "take the will for the deed." If I were not aware of the generosity of the public, I should despair of ever being able to liquidate the large claims it has upon me. I feel abashed at the success it has heaped upon me, knowing my own unworthiness better than any one else can know it.
