Thus, the first nation of Daniel's dream, and which is THE FIFTH great Gentile nation since Babylon, has been fulfilled in the kingdom, and possessions, of Great Britain.

The following map, represents the "LION WITH EAGLE'S WINGS, and undoubtedly proves the claim of England to the fulfilment of the symbolic prediction, by the geographical position of her possessions, each side of Great Britain.

The next figure of Daniel's dream which we have to consider, is the "BEAR;" he says:- 'And I beheld another beast, a second, LIKE TO A BEAR AND IT RAISED UP ITSELF ON ONE SIDE, AND IT HAD THREE RIBS IN THE MOUTH OF IT BETWEEN THE TEETH OF IT: AND THEY SAID THUS UNTO IT, ARISE, DEVOUR MUCH FLESH" (Danl. vii. 5.).

Let us look closely into this symbol:

There is no misunderstanding this emblem!-Everyone knows that the bear is emblematic of this nation! This being so, let us consider the next point of Daniel's prediction :

“IT RAISED UP ITSELF ON ONE SIDE "(Danl. vii. 5.).

If any eye can foresee, surely it is that of God! Here we have in the shape of the territory of Russia, a land which forms a great OBLONG; and the foresight of God, in order to point out the direction which He would permit this nation to accomplish great victories, made use of this OBLONG-SHAPE symbol to indicate the aforesaid direction. Thus it pleased Him to ordain that, the arms of Russia shall go forth to battle, and shall accomplish great conquest at a certain date, in the direction of its oblong-side "it raised up itself on one side. "

Spiritual promptings have already taken place; -Do we not know that Russia for ages past, has had her eyes drawn towards Constantinople, and other neighbouring places that lay in the direction of her side,—and by her vast length, which extends from Findland to the sea of Okotsk, no doubt whatever

exists as to the direction in which her side does lay —and that she would be only too willing to extend her possessions, and control, as far as the mediterranean sea, enabling a pent fleet to have an outlet, which, alone, makes a nation great and powerful. Well then, the "raising up of itself on one side, is the prediction of Russia, sweeping the country in the direction of Egypt, with a lateral splay as far as the sick man's house: but more of this anon.

The next stage for our consideration in connection with the predicted Russian-symbol, is :
