HEAD OF THE CHURCH. Isa. 33.22. The Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will save us. Isa. 55.4. I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.

CHRIST, HIGH-PRIEST AND MEDIATOR. Psa. 110.4. The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Isa. 53.12. He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Zec. 6.13. He shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. Luk. 22.32. I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not.

Heb. 7.27. Who needeth not daily, as those high-priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28. For the law maketh men high-priests which have infirmity; but the word of the

oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. v. 1-28.

Heb. 8.1. We have such an high-priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2. A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. 6. He obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Heb. 9.11. Christ being come an high-priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 15. For this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inherit

ance.

Heb. 9.24. Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us. v. 11-28. See Rev. 8.3,4.

Heb. 10.11. Every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12. But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. 21. An high-priest over the house of God. v. 1-21.

Heb. 12.24. Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

JEWS' RECEPTION OF. JEWISH VIEWS RESPECTING. Isa. 8.14. He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Isa. 49.4. I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain.

Isa. 53.1. Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? 2. For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4. We did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
