Sabbath services are divided into three off ces, there is the greater need of the inter vention of PSALMODY, that the transition from one service to another, may not be to sudden and abrupt. This Exercise, there fore, being a part of our public Devotions and very useful, when it is duly and regu larly performed, must not be forgotten while we are considering of proper rule: for decency and edification in the Church especially, as experience shews us, that where no care is taken in this matter, the performance is too often very defective, and even shocking to the car.

To provide for due solemnity in this par of our public Service, as well as the rest, it is much to be wished that a proper SELEC TION OF PSALMS, HYMNS, &c. were used i every Parish; by which means, the Con gregation might be furnished with those which are most proper, and also with a duc variety; they will thus, by degrees, be im

planted in the minds of the Congregation, and become familiar to them.

To the end that Psalms and Hymns so chosen, may be sung in a more decent manner, it is also to be wished that the People of every Parish, and especially the Youth, were train'd up, and accustomed to an orderly way of singing some of the psalm tunes which are most plain and easy, and of most common use; since that is the most proper season for forming the Voice, as well as the Mind and the Regularity, into which it is then cast with great ease, will remain with them during life, and not only enable them to contribute their part to the decency of this Performance, but even for the sake of that talent, will incline them to be more constant in attending the public Service of the Church.

The following Selection, forms a valuable fund of Sacred Poetry, comprising PSALMS, HYMNS, and ANTHEMS; the Melodies

adapted to them, are beautiful, simple, and easy; and with a due attention on the part of the Congregation, they will, in a short time, be enabled to lift up their united voices, "in the great Congregation," in Songs of Praise, Adoration, and Thanksgiving, as dutiful Children, to their common Parent-the ALL-WISE, OMNIPOTENT,

ALL-BOUNTIFUL CREATOR.
