EVENING PRAYER.

SIXTH SERVICE.

Let the Minifter introduce the Service by reading the following Exhortation, the Congregation rifing up.

DEARLY beloved brethren, we are now met together under the profeffion of the christian faith, for the worship of Almighty God; to celebrate his glorious perfections; and to give thanks for all his mercies; to hear his holy word; to humble ourselves before him for our tranfgreffions, and to pray for those things which are requifite and neceffary for ourselves and others; wherefore let us, with fincere and humble hearts, approach the throne of grace. O MOST merciful God, unto whom all hearts are open, all defires known, and from whom no fecrets are hid, enable us at this time devoutly to magnify thy holy name, and most thankfully to acknowledge thy never failing goodness. goodness. May we hear the precepts of thy holy word with teachable and obedient minds; and may we fo humbly and fincerely confefs our fins before thee, relying on thine infinite mercy in Jefus Christ, as to obtain the forgiveness of them. Strengthen, we beseech thee, the refolutions we would now make, of living more worthy of our Christian profeffion; and grant that our prayers and praises may excite us to love thee more fervently, and to obey thy laws more fincerely and perfectly; and may our interceffions for others be accompanied with fervent charity for all men. Let thy prefence be in all the

affemblies

affemblies of thy people this day. Graciously affift thy miniftring fervants in discharging the important duties of their facred office; may they come forth in the fullness of the bleffing of the gospel of Christ, that finners may be converted unto thee, and thy church may be edified in faith and holinefs unto eternal falvation. Amen.

Then let the Minister and People alternately recite the following Act of Adoration, the People standing.

Minifter.

WORTHY art thou, O Lord, to receive bleffing, and honour, and glory, and praise; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

People.

By the things that are made, are clearly feen and underflood thine eternal power and

godhead.

Minifter.

The heavens declare thy glory, O God, and the firmament fheweth thy handy work. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night fheweth knowledge.

People.

All thy works praife thee, O Lord, in all places of thy dominion.

Minifter.

Let all the earth, therefore, worship and fear before thee, O Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world glorify thy holy name.

People.

Thou art great and greatly to be praised; thy greatness is unfearchable.

Minifter.

The earth is full of thy goodnefs; thou makest thy fun to fhine; thou givest rain from heaven and fruitful feafons; and thy

bounty

bounty supplieth the wants of every living

thing.

People.

Thou art good unto all, and thy tender mercies are over all thy works.

Minifter:

Thou, O Lord, haft created man in thine own image, haft given him underftanding; haft written thy law in his heart, and inftructed him by the revelation of thy will.

People.

Thou, O Lord, haft made us and not we ourfelves. We rejoice in thee as the God of our falvation.

Minifter.

O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and goodness of God.

People.

Blefs the Lord, O our fouls, and let all that is within us blefs bis holy name.
