A Prayer to be used in time of War.

ALMIGHTY God, who art the fupreme Governor of all things, to whom it justly belongeth to punish finful nations, and to be merciful to those who repent; we humbly beseech thee, in all time of our danger, to be the defender of our country: give us not up into the hands of our enemies; fave us from the edge of the fword, and preferve our land from the defolations of war; confirm and continue to us the enjoyment of our civil and religious liberties, and may we yet live fecure under that government which thy providence hath fet over us. We do with all humility acknowledge ourselves unworthy of these

peculiar bleffings; have mercy upon us, O God, have mercy upon us; fend forth a spirit of reformation amongst us, avert the evils we have deserved, continue thy favour and protection to us, fave and deliver us, O our God, for in thee do we put our trust restore tranquility and peace to contending nations, unite the hearts of mankind in the bonds of humanity and love, and may the happy time come, when the calamities of war fhall ceafe for ever, and peace and righteousness univerfally prevail. And this we humbly beg, for thy mercy's fake, declared unto mankind by Jefus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Grant, O Lord, that be may take this thy vifitation patiently; give him comfort and fure confidence in thee, fupport him under all the trials of this present sickness, that he may be fitted for whatever in thy wife and righteous providence thou haft appointed for him; fanctify, we beseech thee, this thy fatherly visitation to him, that if it be thy good pleasure to restore him to his former health, be lead the refidue of his life here in thy fear, and to thy glory; and whenever thou fhalt see fit to remove him hence, he may be prepared to dwell with thee in life everlasting, according to thy gracious promises by Jefus Christ our Lord. FATHER of mercies, and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need, we flee unto thee for fuccour in behalf of thy

fervant lying under thy hand in great weakness of body; look graciously upon him, O Lord, and the more the outward frame decayeth, ftrengthen him, we beseech thee, fo much the more continually with thy grace and holy fpirit; give him unfeigned repentance for all the errors of his life paft, and a firm reliance on thy great mercies in Jefus Christ our Lord, that his fins may be done away by thy mercy, and bis pardon fealed in heaven, before be go hence, and be no more feen. We know, O Lord, that there is no work impoffible with thee, and that if thou wilt, thou canst even yet raise him up, and grant him a longer continuance amongst us. Yet forafmuch as in all appearance the time of bis diffolution draweth near, fo fit and prepare him, we beseech thee, against the hour of death, that after bis departure hence in peace, and in thy favour, he may in thy appointed time be received into thine everlasting kingdom. ALMIGHTY and merciful God, the great Father and Preferver of life, in at faithful dependance on thy goodness, wifdom and power, we now lift up our hearts unto thee, humbly praying, if it feemeth good in thy fight, that thou wilt fpare the life of this child, for whom our prayers are defired, and prolong it to years of understanding and usefulness.
