OUR Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come ; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us : And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Heb. xiii. 20, 21. NOW may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make us perfect in every good work to do his will, working in us that which is well pleasing in his fight, through Jesus Christ: to him be glory for ever. Amen.
BURIAL OF THE DEAD.
The Minister, meeting the Corpse at the entrance
of the Burial Ground, shall say,
I AM the resurrection and the life, faith the Lord; he that believeth in me, though he die, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth, and believeth in me, shall not die eternally. John xi. 25, 26.
All flesh is as grass, and the glory of man as the flower of the grass; the grass withereth, and the flower thereof fadeth away, but the word of the Lord endureth for ever. 1 Pet. i. 24, 25.
The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away ; blessed be the name of the Lord. Fobi. 21.
9 When they come to the Grave, the Minister shall
M AN that is born of a woman, hath but a short time to live: He cometh up, and is cut down like a flower; he fleeth as it were a shadow, and never continueth in one stay.
In the midst of life we are in death ; of whom may we seek for fuccour, but of thee, O Lord, who for our sins art justly displeafed ?
Yet, O Lord God most holy, O Lord most mighty, O holy and most merciful Father, deliver us not into the bitter pains of the second death.
Thou knoweft, Lord, the secrets of our hearts; shut not thy merciful ears to our prayers; but spare us, Lord most holy, O God most mighty, O holy and most merciful Father, thou supreme Judge of all, suffer us not at our last hour to fall from our faith and hope in thee.
q Then, while the earth Mall be cast upon the body,
the Minister shall say,
FORASMUCH as it hath pleased Almighty God to take from this world our brother here departed, we therefore commit his body to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, in sure and certain hope that there shall be a resurrection to eternal life of all those who die in the fear and love of God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall change their corruptible body, that it may be like unto his glorious body, according to the mighty working of that power, whereby he is enabled to subdue all things unto himself, that all may confess that Christ Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
BLESSED are the dead who die in the Lord; even so faith the Spirit ; for they rest from their labours, and their works follow them. Rev. xiv. 13.
