himself for us. May the hope of that eternal life, which is promised in the gospel to faithful Chriftians, preferve us from all the corruptions which are in the world, and excite us to purify ourselves, even as Christ is pure; that we may be fincere and without offence unto the day of his coming.

While we continue in this world, let thine eyes, most compaffionate Father! be ever upon us for good; and fo conduct us through the various changes of life, as thou feeft will be most profitable to us: Guard us from every real evil, and vouchsafe to us every needful bleffing. Rejoicing that our times are in thy hands, we would, amidst all the darkness which hides future events from our fight, moft chearfully commit ourselves to thy perfectly righteous and merciful difpofal. Preferve us from the fnares of profperity and adverfity: Permit no temptation to befal us but what we shall be able to bear; and whatever fufferings may be allotted us, impart to us fuitable fupports under them, and give us grace rightly

rightly to improve them. Let faith and patience have their perfect work; and may our light afflictions, which are but for a moment, finally work out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

People.

Guide us, O Lord! in all our ways; fit us for all thy will; and let thy mercy be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

Minifter.

O thou fupreme Difpofer of our lot! fo teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. In all the events of this uncertain ftate, may we look to that great change to which we are continually hastening, and to that awful day of account which will follow. Fix, gracious God! we intreat thee, deep in every heart, a constant and lively belief of an approaching judgment; grant, that neither the cares, nor pleasures, nor any of the objects of this prefent world, may betray us into a D3 forget

forgetfulness of the things which belong to our peace, and cause that day to come upon us unawares; but may we be sober and watch unto prayer; and, whenever we are called hence, may our end be full of peace and hope; above all, may we obtain mercy of the Lord in that day; and when all thy children fhall be gathered into one glorious affembly, to inherit the kingdom prepared for them, may we be found in that happy number, and enter with them into the joy of our Lord. Amen.

The General Interceffion.
