CHAP. I.

1 John defcribeth the person of Chrift, in whom we bave eternal life by a communion with God: 5 10 which we muft adjoin boliness.

THAT which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have feen with our eyes, which we have look ed upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life;

Comfort against fins of infirmity. S To know God, is to keep his command18 To beware of feducers: 20 from whofe deceits the godly are fafely preferved by faith and boliness of life. MY little children, these things write I unto you, that ye fin not. And if any man fin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jefus Chrift the righteous:

2 And he is the propitiation for our fins and not for ours only, but also for the fins of the whole world.

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

He that faith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whofo keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

5 This then is the meffage which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, 6 He that faith he abideth in him, that God is light, and in him is no dark-ought himself also so to walk, even as he nefs at all. walked.

6 If we fay that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jefus Chrift his Son cleanfeth us from all fin.

7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

9 He that faith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, becaufe ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

14 I have written unto you, fathers, becaufe ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are ftrong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

15 Love not theworld, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the luft of the flesh, and the luft of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, bur is of the world.

17 And the world paffeth away, and the luft thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

18 Little children, it is the laft time: and as ye have heard that antichrift shall come;even now are there many antichrifts; whereby we know that it is the last time. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us: for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifeft that they were not all of us 20 ¶ But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jefus is the Chrift? He is antichrift, that denieth the Father and the Son.

CHAP. III.

1 Fobn declareth the Angular love of God toward us in making us bis fent: 3 we therefore ought obediently to keep bis commandments, 11 as aljo brotherly to love one another.

BEHOLD, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we thoaid be called the fons of God; theretore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Beloved, now are we the fons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we tball be: but we know that, when ho thail appear, we shall be like him; for we thall tee him as he is.

S And every man that hath this hope in him, purifieth himfelf, even as he is pure.

4 Whofoever committeth fin tranfgreffeth alfo the law: for fin is the tranfgreffion of the law.

5 And ye know that he was manifestedta take away our fins; and in him is no fin. 6 Whofoever, abideth in him finneth not: whofoever finneth hath not feen him, neither known him.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is rightcous, even as he is righteous.

& He that committeth fin is of the devii; for the devil finneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifefted, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9 Whofoever is born of God doth not commit fin; for his feed remaineth in him: and he cannot fin, because he is born of God.

10 In this the children of God are manifeft, and the children of the devil: whofoever doeth not righteoufnefs is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

11 For this is the metfage that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another:

23 Whofoever denieth the Son, the fame hath not the Father: [but] be that acknowledgeth the Son bath the Father alfo. 24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. 12 Not as Cain, who was of that wickIf that which ye have heard from the beed one, and flew his brother. 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and fhall affure our hearts before him.

20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

21 Beloved, ifour heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

12 No man hath feen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

15 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he is us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.,

14 And we have feen and do teftify that the Father fent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

7 Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.

9 In this was manifefted the love of God toward us, because that God fent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved

He that loveth God, loveth bis cbil. dren, and keeperb bis commandments ; Subicb to the faithful are light, and not grievous. 9 Jejus is the Son of God, able to fave us, 14 and to hear our prayers, which we make for ourfelves, and for others.

WHOSOEVER believeth that Jefus is the Chrift, is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat, loveth him alfo that is begotten of himn.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jefus is the Son of God
