The coming and departure of the
wife men.


Now when Jefus was born in Bethle- 1. Mat. ii.

in the days of Herod the King, behold there came wife men from the Eaft to Jerufalem, faying, Where is he that is born King of the 2. Fews? For we have feen his far in the Eaft, and are come to worship him.



When Herod the King had heard these Anno things he was troubled, and all Ferufa- Etat. 1. 3lem with him, and when he had gathered all the chief Priefts and Scribes of the people together, he demanded of 5. them where Chrift fhould be born. And they faid unto him in Bethlehem of Fu dea for thus it is written by the Pro6. phet [Micah V. 2.] And thou Bethlehem in the land of Fuda, art not the least among out of the Princes of Fudo th thee fhall come a Governour that shall rule my people Ifrael.


Then Herod when he had privily
call'd the wife men, enquired of them
diligently what time the ftar appear'd.
8. And he fent them to Bethlehem, and
faid, Go and fearch diligently for the
young child, and when ye have found
bim bring me word
that I may
9. come and worship him alfo. When they
had heard the King, they departed; and
lo, the ftar which they faw in the east,
went before them, till it came and stood
10. over where the young child was. When


they faw the ftar they rejoiced with ex11. ceeding great joy. And when they were

come into the house, they faw the young
child with Mary his mother, and fell
down, and worshipped him: and when
they had opened their treafures, they pre-
fented unto him gifts; gold and frank-
12. incenfe, and myrrh. And being warn-

ed of God in a dream that they fhould
not return to Herod, they departed into
their own country another way.

ND when the days of [Mary's] pu- 22.
rification, according to the Law of
Mofes, were accomplished, they brought
[Fefus] to Jerufalem to prefent him to
the Lord, (as it is written in the Law of 23.
the Lord, Every male that openeth the
womb fhall be called holy to the Lord)
and to offer a facrifice according to that 24.
which is faid in the Law of the Lord,
a pair of turtle doves or two young pi-
geons. And behold there was a man in 25.
Jerufalem, whofe name was Simeon; and
the fame man was just and devout, wait-
ing for the confolation of Ifrael: and
the Holy Ghoft was upon him. And it 26.
was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghoft,
that he should not fee death, before he
had feen the Lord's Chrift. And he came 27.
by the Spirit into the Temple: and when
the Parents brought in the Child Jefus,
to do for him after the cuftom of the
Law, then took he him up in his arms
and bleffed God and faid,

And Jofeph and his Mother marvelled Anno Luke ii. 33 at thofe things which were spoken of him. Etat. 1. 34. ND when the [wife men] were departed, behold the Angel of the Lord appeareth to Jofeph in a dream, faying, Arife, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will feek the young child to de14. ftroy him. When he arofe, he took the young child and his mother by night,



and departed into Egypt; and was there Egypt. Etat. 2. until the death of Herod that it might 15. Mat. ii, be fulfilled which was fpoken of the Lord by the Prophet [Hofea xi. 1.] saying, out of Egypt bave I called my Son.

Hen Herod when he faw that he was 16.
mocked of the wife men, was ex-
ceeding wrath, and fent forth, and flew
all the children that were in Bethlehem,
and in all the coafts thereof from two
years old and under, according to the
time which he had diligently enquired of
the wife men. Then was fulfilled that 17.
which was spoken by Jeremy the Prophet,
[xxxi. 15.] faying, In Rama was there a 18.
voice heard, lamentation, and weeping,
and great mourning, Rachel weeping for
ber children and would not be comfort-
ed because they are not.

UT when Herod was dead, behold, 19. an Angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Jofeph in Egypt, faying, Arife, 20. and take the young child and his mother and go into the Land of Ifrael, for they are dead which fought the young child's life. And he arofe, and took the younga. C 2 child
