St. Mark says twice because he wrote his gospel for the ise of the converts at Rome, where the reckoning was by two cock crowings, at midnight and at three in the morning; but the Jews reckoned only by one cock-crowing, which was the latter.

• Our Lord was misunderstood: his disciples took the words in a literal sense of preparing for a defence, what were only meant to express generally the conduct of men under circumstances of worldly danger.

125. Jesus institutes the eating of bread, and
drinking of wine, in remembrance of his body crucified.
AND as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, “ Take, eat: this is my
body, which is given for you : this do in “ remembrance of me.” And he took the

to his disciples.
“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the sb husbandman. Every branch in me that 6 beareth not fruit he taketh away: and
every ss branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that “ it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are “ clean“ through the word which I have spoken “ unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As " the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except 6 it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except
