Congregation.-O God, direct thy Servant to set clearly and fully before us the doctrines and precepts of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Minister.-O Lord, give unto all this Audience the spirit of attention. May they all hear thy word with reverence, may they try themselves by the truths set before them, and may they be enlarged in the kingdom of God by this service.

Congregation.-O God, bless this audience with the spirit of attention, and give unto us all, Divine in

struction.

Minister. O God of all grace, in thy name we would commence, in thy name may we indeed speak and hear, and may thy name be glorified in us on this occasion, through our Saviour Jesus Christ: amen. Congregation.-Amen, and amen.

[The Congregation sit.]

[The Sermon is now delivered; and is succeeded by the following Prayer, which concludes the Service.]

Minister-Let us pray.

-

[All kneel.]

Minister. Almighty and Everlasting God, be pleased to follow with thy blessing the truths that have now been delivered from thy holy word in the hearing of this assembly.

Congregation. O Lord, let the truths of thy Word, now heard, truly profit us.

Minister. O God, grant unto all of us thy grace to apply to ourselves individually the instructions, the warnings and encouragements, the admonitions and comforts, the hopes and the fears, that have been unfolded to our view at this time from thy holy word.

Congregation.-O Lord our God, arouse us and stir us up, by these instructions.

Minister.-Merciful God, preserve us all from a cold hard and impenetrable heart that remains unmoved and unaffected by the loudest denunciations of thy word. O Lord, give unto us all a soft and tender heart, that will readily receive impressions from the words of thy mouth spoken in our hearing. May our language ever be when thy voice is heard, Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth.

Congregation O God, soften our hearts: speak thou unto us, and make us hear.

Minister.-Most Merciful Father, let not Satan take away that which has now been sown in the hearts of this people here before thee. Make us all to be aware of our danger from this quarter, and lead us to watch and to pray. O God, let this seed of thy Kingdom now scattered abroad on this assembly, be like to the seed which lights upon good ground, and is received into an honest and good heart, and bringeth forth much fruit unto perfection.

Congregation.-O Lord God, let not Satan take away the seed which has now been sown, but let it fall into good ground.

Minister-Almighty and Everlasting God, most graciously hear this prayer now offered unto thee on behalf of this Congregation, and may the results of this service be blessed and great in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Congregation.-O God, may the results of this service be blessed and great in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ: amen.

Minister-May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with us all: amen. Congregation.-Amen, and amen.

[All rise, and stand.]

Minister.-Let us sing to the praise and the glory of God:-"Welcome" &c. [pronouncing the two first lines of the following hymn :-Or, referring to some other, and pronouncing the two first lines of it.]

1. Welcome, sweet day of rest,
That saw the Lord arise,
Welcome to this reviving breast
And these rejoicing eyes.

2. The King himself comes near,
And feasts his saints to day,
Here we may sit, and see Him here,
And love, and praise, and pray.

3. One day amidst the place

Where God himself hath been,
Is sweeter than ten thousand days
Of pleasurable sin.

4. My willing soul would stay
In such a frame as this,

And praise, and sing herself away,
To everlasting bliss.

[Still standing.]

Minister.-Let us Pray.

[All kneel.]

Minister. O Lord God of grace and mercy and peace, we come before thee in the name of Jesus Christ. He died for our sins, he rose for our justification; his blood cleanseth from all sin; and he ever liveth to make intercessiou for us. We confess before thee, O God, that we are sinful and unrighteous, and ungodly, and wholly corrupted in thy sight. Have mercy upon us, O our God, and through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, absolve us from all our guilt; receive us as perfect in the perfection of Christ; and enable us to rejoice in the hope of that glory which thou hast set before us.

Congregation.—O God of all grace, we come to thee in the name of Christ: pardon us, O Lord, and receive us in his name.

Minister. Almighty God, thou hast declared to us in thy word, that every one who enjoys the hope of being eternally in thy presence in happiness and glory, cleanseth himself from all ungodliness and earthly desires, and aspireth to be pure and holy, in imitation of thy Adorable Self. O Lord God, give us thy Spirit, that these principles, and the corresponding deeds, may be found in us in full effect. O let us endeavour and constantly, and most earnestly, to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit, and let us perfect holiness in the fear of God.

Congregation. Most Holy God, make us holy, we beseech thee, for thou art holy.

Minister.-All Gracious Father, we bless and magnify thy name for all the means thou hast provided for our instruction and holiness. O let these means have

due and full effect upon us. Lord God, save us, we beseech thee, from being like the ground which receives the rain of heaven, yet brings forth no fruit, but produces only briars and thorns. O let it be otherwise with us : let us be like the fields which drink in the rain that comes upon them, and bring forth`
