GOD, the Father of light, Who by the entrance of Thy Word dost give light unto the soul; Pour down on me the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, that being taught of Thee in Thy Holy Scriptures I may understand the words of eternal life, and be made wise unto salvation ; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (74) Daily during the week before Easter. No. 117, p. 128.

Or this.

LORD Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, Who at the third hour of the day didst receive the bitter sentence of death for us; I humbly pray Thee, by Thy Cross and Passion, to blot out my sins, and mercifully to bring me to the glory of Thy kingdom, Who livest and reignest God, world without end. Amen. (75)

Intercessory Prayer, to be said daily, or upon Wednesday and Friday.

QEHOLD now, I have taken upon me to speak

Gen. xviii. 27.

Unto Thee lift I up mine eyes,

O Thou that dwellest in the heavens.
Arise, O Lord, and help us,

And deliver us for Thy mercy's sake. AVE mercy, O Lord, upon Thy Church which is spread throughout the world, and strengthen her in Thy great goodness. Defend all those whom Thou hast appointed to be shepherds of Thy flock: give to the Bishops wisdom, quietness, and peace: and so sanctify the Priests, the Deacons, and all Thy people, that in purity and holiness, in faith and charity, they may per

severe in all godly and Christian conversation, and set forth Thy glory. Give peace to all Kings, Princes, and Rulers who honour Thee: preserve all Judges in Thy fear: look upon all members of Thy Church and drive far from them all wars and all civil strife, and let them dwell in peace. Save in Thy mercy such as are suffering persecution, and all prisoners and captives: bring those at sea safely to their harbour, and all travellers to their home: be Thou the companion of their way. Visit the sick: strengthen the weak: help the oppressed: and call to the fear and knowledge of Thee all that are about to perish: for Thou art merciful and pardonest sin: and Thine is all honour, glory, and power in Thine onlybegotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Or this.

flock: and save us Thy unworthy servants the sheep of Thy pasture: grant to us Thy peace and Thy love and Thy help, and send to us the gift of Thy most Holy Spirit, that living with pure hearts and good consciences we may be joined together in the bonds of peace and love, and being one body and one spirit may attain to Thy kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (77) For other Prayers see p. 186.

Thanksgiving, to be said daily, or upon Sunday and Thursday.

Praise the Lord, O my soul.

And all that is within me praise His holy Name.

WITH what faith and earnestness, what virtue

W and joy and exultation, with how great devo

tion and obedience and purity shall I confess that the gift of the Holy Spirit, promised before by the

Son of God, was at this hour poured forth abundantly upon the Church. Purify, O Lord, I beseech Thee, my heart and enlarge my mind that I may confess the coming and utter the praise of the Infinite Spirit, Who is One with the Father and the Son in substance, the Third Person of the One glorious Trinity. The Heavens cannot contain Him, yet He cometh to dwell in my heart. But how can I worthily receive so mighty a Guest, how can I fitly entertain Him Who is Himself the life of the angels and archangels and of all the heavenly powers? I know that I am unworthy that He should dwell with me: I beseech Thee therefore that He may Himself prepare Himself an habitation in me. Amen. (78)

The Blessing.

AY the grace of the Holy Spirit illumine my heart and mind. Amen.

OUR Father, whic

UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

LORD, my God and Father, blessed be Thy Name for ever; Dispose my heart, open my lips, and guide me by Thy Holy Spirit, that my prayers and praises may be acceptable in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then the Collect for the day from the Book of Common Prayer, and the seven Prayers following, or any of them, or one for each day of the week.

SUNDAY.

LORD, I offer and present unto Thee myself and all that is mine, my deeds and words, my rest and my silence. Only, O Lord, do Thou take me, and lead me; move my hand and my

mind and my tongue to those things which are well-pleasing in Thy sight; turn me from all things from which Thou wouldest have me abstain; grant this, O Lord, for Jesus Christ's sake, through Whom I pray to Thee. Amen. (80)

MONDAY.

LORD, there is no hiding me from Thy presence, for if I should say, the darkness shall cover me, then shall my night be turned to day; for the darkness is no darkness with Thee, but the night is as clear as the day; the darkness and light to Thee are both alike. Therefore, O God, I present myself open before Thee; O cleanse my soul that it may rejoice to be seen of Thee in Christ Jesus. Amen. (81)

TUESDAY.

LORD Jesus, succour me; gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Thou most mighty One. Yea, manifest Thy power, O Thou Mightiest of the mighty; slay in me my natural self, that so I may live in Thee, and the enemies of my soul may cease to persecute me. Amen. (82)

WEDNESDAY.

LORD, be gracious unto me, and give me an heart to worship Thee, and to do Thy will; and open my heart in Thy law, and send me peace; hear my prayers and reconcile me to Thyself, and never forsake me in the time of trouble, for Jesus Christ His sake. Amen. (83)

THURSDAY.

IVE me, O Lord, modesty in my countenance, U gravity in my behaviour, deliberation in my speech, holiness in my thoughts, and righteousness in all my actions. Let Thy mercy cleanse me from my sins, and let Thy grace bring forth in me the fruits of everlasting life. Amen. (84)
