Wow....this is a huge book and a great resource for those who have Celiac disease or non-Celiac gluten sensitivity . I can't say I've read it cover to cover, but I have chosen many areas of interest to read more about eating gluten free, and the effects of gluten on the body. My interest in requesting the book was due to the fact that I have been following the paleo diet, and was looking for more info on eating gluten free.
Besides the obvious of telling you what foods to avoid, it also covers topics such as how to shop and read labels, how to safely eat in a restaurant, how to handle other situations away from home. Also what to expect in medical work-ups, and how to maneuver thru the medical world from Drs appts, tests, and hospital stays. There's a ton of resources listed...actual brand names and products that are safe (gluten free), and tons of resources including blogs, web sites, organizations, support groups etc.
The book also includes recipes for food as well as some for skin care type products. It also has info on raising kids with celiac disease.
While I may not use this book a lot myself, anyone who cannot tolerate gluten will find it to be a very valuable resource!

The Gluten Free Revolution is not a book that you just sit down and read but it is an interesting book. I'm not really trying to go gluten free but will definitely try some of the recipes as they sound easy and delicious. I won this from LibraryThing Early Reviewer. ( )

This book is a great resource for people trying to go gluten-free, and even gluten-free veterans like myself. Even though I've been gluten-free for almost five years, I still learned many great tips through this book. My only critique was the book's length; editing some of the text down would make the guide easier for readers to utilize. Overall 4/5 stars; Lowell's book makes going gluten-free a painless and simple transition. ( )

I received this book as part of the Early Reviewers program. What a great book whether you are going gluten free due to a medical condition or just to make an impact on your life. The size of the book can be somewhat intimidating. But it truly is an amazing book. Lowell explains medical terms in easy to understand terms along with humor to keep things light and interesting. Not only do you get wonderful sounding recipes, but tips and tricks throughout- and lots of "Learn more" for those interested in reading or learning more online. Definitely worth the time and a guide book for years to come! ( )

This is an excellent, comprehensive, resource guide for people who must restrict their intake of glutenous food, whether due to celiac disease, gluten intolerance, or dietary preference.

Ms. Lowell, who has celiac, goes to great lengths to list basic grains that contain gluten, as well as grains that are gluten-free. She discusses how to discuss dietary constraints with dinner hosts, family, restaurants and grocers.

The book even contains foreign-language cards in 23 languages - not just the standard French, Spanish and German, but in Arabic, Croatian and Swahili (and more!). The cards are to be presented to wait staff at a foreign restaurant, informing them that you are unable to eat gluten, and asking for their cooperation in getting a meal that you will be able to enjoy.

I do think the book is somewhat over-long, and I get the feeling that Ms. Lowell is - at times - a bit patronizing/condescending. A must-have book for the person who must avoid gluten. ( )

My new favorite resource for understanding Gluten-free, is a valuable tool for both veterans to the subject as well as newcomers! I’m so glad that the word is getting out; Jax Peters Lowell has done a fabulous job synthesizing abundant amount of topics connected to Gluten-free which both advises and nurtures. Even the Gluten-Intolerance Dining Card translated into various languages (23 translations) will be most helpful to those exploring international communities. The recipes that I have tried, are delicious and entertainment worthy. Kudos to the author for her dedication to a subject which is bound to benefit many individuals. ( )

This is the best home guide and travel abroad manual for those choosing to navigate their gluten-free life successfully. I am new to the subject and have had my curiosity deeply satisfied with an enormous amount of documented beneficial medical facts and real life experience testimony shared from the author. I found much of the information easy to understand with down to earth facts and spun with good old fashion humor! I am looking forward to sampling and can't wait to try the many delicious recipes offered inside. As I begin my gluten-free journey, I am grateful to have this fantastic food Bible in my hands. It's just what I need! Jax Peters Powell has written and shared an evergreen testimony of truth with us from her heart that will indeed benefit and revolutionize a healthy community of family and friends for a very long time. I highly recommend this one! ( )
