This is the first of a two volume history of Alcoholics Anonymous as it began in Indiana's St. Joseph River valley. That topic is of personal interest to me because my AA home group n Michigan is part of a movement started (in East Lansing) by a man who got sober in South Bend 48 years ago.
The book is somewhat uneven, interspersing history, transcribed open talks by some of the Indiana pioneers, and the author's musings on spiritual and recovery topics. I found it pretty much fascinating, and I'm deep into the companion second volume. ( )
