OLD VERSION

OF

THE PSALMS.

PSALM I.-Ver. 1, 2, 3, 4.

1.

THE man is blest that hath not lent
To wicked men his ear;
Nor led his life as sinners do,
Nor sat in scorner's chair:

2.

But in the law of God the Lord
Hath plac'd his whole delight,
And in the same doth exercise
Himself both day and night.

3.

He shall be like a tree that is
Planted the rivers nigh,

Which in due season bringeth forth
Its fruit abundantly ;

4.

Whose leaf shall never fade or fall,

But flourishing shall stand; E'en so all things shall prosper well, That this man takes in hand.

PSALM IV.-Ver. 6, 7, 8, 9.

6.

OFFER to God the sacrifice

Of righteousness and praise; And look that in the living Lord Ye put your trust always.

7.

Though many may on worldly goods
Their hopes and wishes place,
Still grant us, Lord, Thy countenance,
Thy favour and Thy grace.

8.

For Thou thereby shalt make our hearts
More joyful and more glad,
Than they that of their corn and wine
Full great increase have had.

9.

Therefore in peace will we lie down,
Taking our rest and sleep;
For Thou alone dost us, O Lord,
In perfect safety keep.

PSALM VIII.-Ver. 1, 3, 4, 8.

1.

O GOD our Lord, how wonderful
Are Thy works every where !
Thy fame surmounts in dignity
The highest heav'ns that are.
